Choosing the right label for the product

Before ordering, it helps to know what the label has to survive. A label on a dry retail box has an easier life than one on a cosmetics bottle that gets handled with wet hands, or on a food container that goes into a fridge. Send us the container type and the conditions it will be stored and used in, and we will tell you what we can produce for it.

If your product needs a printed tag rather than an adhesive label, we also produce label tags. They are printed on premium card stock - similar to our business card specification - using offset printing, in sizes from 9 × 5 cm down to 5 × 5 cm, and an order covers 1,000 tags in a single design. They suit retail items, packaging, apparel labels and product branding. If the tags need to be tied on, hang tag string and hemp rope are stocked separately in the utilities range.

Repeat orders and ongoing supply

Most label work is not a single purchase. A product line sells through its packaging and the same label is needed again, often with nothing changed. Most orders are ready within 1-3 business days for collection, with delivery time added on top, so a reorder is worth placing before stock runs out rather than after. Sending your artwork

We print from files you supply. We do not currently offer in-house graphic design services, so the artwork needs to arrive finished, but we do check every file for print suitability before printing.

• Accepted formats: PDF, AI, EPS, PSD, JPEG and PNG.
• Use CMYK color mode.
• Images at a minimum of 300 DPI.
• Include bleed and trim marks where the design runs to the edge of the label.
• Embed or outline all fonts.

Label artwork is usually small and dense with text, so the 300 DPI minimum matters more here than on a large-format job. Ingredient lists, contact details and barcodes are the first things to break up if the file is supplied at screen resolution.
